Earth. Two Geologists.

We are Greg and Nancy McHone, and this website is intended to highlight our work and business called Stones2Gems as well as several pages about microscopes, geology of Grand Manan Island, and others of interest. That's Greg (James Gregory McHone) in the photo, lecturing teachers in the field about giant lava flows in Connecticut (in front of the Hampden Basalt on East Berlin Siltstone). Nancy is also a geologist.

Greg's academic background is in geology (B.A. and M.Sc. from the University of Vermont and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina). I am a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and a Certified Professional Geologist of the American Institute of Professional Geologists. Nancy has undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology and library science (Indiana University), an M.A.L.S. in interdisciplinary sciences (Wesleyan University), and extensive graduate work in geology. She also has professional training in making jewelry, art glass, metalwork, and other handicrafts.

In January of 2008 we moved from Connecticut (USA) to live full-time at our handsome old cottage in New Brunswick (Canada) on the island of Grand Manan, also known as "Paradise." In addition to "retiring" while renovating two houses and serving as volunteers for local organizations, we have written several popular geology books about Grand Manan, which we sell ourselves as well as through local museum gift shops. Nancy makes a wide range of fine jewelry with silver, bronze, carvings, and gemstones. Greg renovates microscopes as a hobby but he often sells them either on eBay or privately.

For summer holidays here in Paradise, consider a week at our cute little Stones2Gems Cottage. In 2014 we will be a partner in a retail shop in Grand Harbour called Wharf Gallery & Stones2Gems, open every afternoon from 1 to 5 PM. You can also find us at the Farmers Market on Saturdays, in North Head on our wonderful island in the Bay of Fundy.
